We slept in until 9:00 knowing we had no particular plan for the day. We missed the continental breakfast but were able to score some fresh croissants and coffee for our morning lollygagging about. We are very central to most services here, restaurants and laundry are just across the bridge and the LCBO is 1/2 block away. So our morning chore was to do laundry and buy booze which we accomplished buy lunch, slices of pizza and a brownie eaten in one of the riverside parks. Then Amy lost a nail so we started hunting for a nail salon and scored a 3 o’clock appointment. So Amy got her nails fixed and Rick had a nap!
We went for a late afternoon walk around the river and waterfalls. We are technically staying in what was once Mississippi Mills. Because of the waterfalls there were a number of industries built using water power harnessed from the 19 meter drop at the falls. A Woolen Mill, Flour Mill and 2 small hydro turbines drove numerous smaller industries. Now one new hydro station provides power to the grid.
After discovering the bar that advertised Live Music Thursday was actually closed and not finding a reasonably priced restaurant we went back to our Inn and enjoyed Prairie Charcuterie. Wine and whiskey by the river served with kolbasa and cheese on flat breads. Followed by a soak in the hot tub and a sauna!
Next stop Collingwood.
